New Year Traditions

Different countries have different traditions of celebrating the New Year. People in some countries of the world celebrate the New Year by wearing new clothes. People in South Asia let birds and turtles free. They believe that it will bring them luck in a new year. People in some other countries cook special food and have a special ceremony. In India people leave special things next to their beds. When they wake up they see something beautiful as a start of a new year. Japanese prepare rice cakes the week before the New Year. But in every country people believe that the New Year is the beginning of a new life. They wish each other good luck. In most cultures people promise to better themselves in the next year. Americans write down their New Year resolutions. But not many people keep them.
